NUI Galway Strength and conditioning (NSCA)

Hi, my name is John and I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning coach here at the Westport Physiotherapy  clinic.  I have been working at the clinic since 2017.   Previously I was working in the UK for 10 years where I gained a wealth of knowledge in the National Health Service, and the private sector.

I design client led treatment/training plans to help you achieve your goals and believe in developing self-efficacy with all of my clients.  This is achieved  through concise demonstration of each aspect of your treatment/training programmes.   I also work with local teams doing fitness testing and developing short term or long term training programmes based on the sport.

It is true that active people can make for excellent physiotherapists, and I am more than qualified in this regard.  I am a keen sports man with a diversity of experience in many sporting disciplines.  I have been involved in Gaelic football both as a player and coach, having coached my local GAA team to senior level.

I am a avid runner,  currently concentrating on the 5k, especially weekly Park Run in Westport, 10k and half marathon distances.  I incorporate regular gym sessions for strength training weekly to help prevent injuries and love the sea swimming as an active recovery tool and to switch off.  In my younger days I participated in Half Ironman and Ironman distances when my time was not at at premium!

Outside of working as a physiotherapist I  work on my farm, tending to my cattle, sheep, growing vegetables and minding my bees.   At home, as a father of three fantastic children, there is never a dull moment in the busy family life my partner and I have built together.
